Worth noting is the film's local marketing. Lavender arrived on Hong Kong screens with a nifty ploy -- six or seven cinemas were equipped with machines to pump aromas throughout the auditoria at key moments. Viewers without the luxury should still notice these moments as folks on screen breathe in oils and learn what the title herb smells like. I'm glad I saw Lavender in just a plain old quiet theatre without the enhancement. While it might seem the boring choice, and I laud any good gimmick factor to rake in local viewers, the technique may ultimately distract from the film's efficient story, appealing cast and fabulous look and feel. Recommended.
